Treasuring God's Word Together
I am really looking forward to exploring some more of Jesus' parables this Sunday. Jesus speaks of a disciple as one who brings out of the treasure chest "what is new and what is old" (Matthew 13.52). Alongside this, Psalm 119 celebrates the wonder of God's word, describing it as a source of light, wisdom and delight. Together these readings invite us on a journey: first to treasure God's word, then to share it generously with others.
As we continue to welcome Revd Solomon alongside Revd Kausar and Revd Elizabeth, we are establishing sustainable rhythms of prayer, discernment and worship across our parish. Each week, as a clergy team, we are sharpening one another through prayer, worship and Scripture, reminding each other that it is from the rich treasure of God's word that we are able to bring life, hope and encouragement to others. It is a delight to pray and read the bible together at our Monday and Tuesday prayer meetings at 9.30am with members of our churches.
The Christian life is not about collecting Bible knowledge. It is about allowing Scripture to shape our hearts so deeply that, in every conversation, challenge and celebration, we instinctively draw upon God's wisdom and love, bringing out "treasures old and new" for the blessing of others.
Thank you to everyone who faithfully preaches, leads Bible studies and creates opportunities for us to explore Scripture together. I look forward to the new opportunities that will emerge, especially within our worship, as we continue discovering and sharing the treasures God has entrusted to us.

A Fresh Start for Midweek Worship and Pastoral Visiting
I am delighted to share that, from this week, I will be leading a short celebration of
Holy Communion every Wednesday at 9.00am at St Margaret's, Whalley Range. This simple midweek service is open to everyone and offers a peaceful opportunity to gather around God's word, share Holy Communion and begin the day in prayer. Whether you worship with us every Sunday or are looking for a quieter midweek service, you are very welcome.
This new pattern also creates a fresh opportunity to strengthen our pastoral visiting. During each Wednesday service, bread and wine will be consecrated so that Holy Communion can be taken to those who are unable to join us in church. If you, or someone you know, would value receiving Communion at home, please do get in touch. I hope to set aside Wednesdays for visits at 11.00am, 12 noon or 2.00pm, although I will be away for part of August. Other members of our clergy team will also be able to take Holy Communion from this service to people at home.
I know I haven't been able to visit as many people as I would have liked, and I hope this marks a fresh start, especially from September. Together with Revd Kausar, Revd Elizabeth, Revd Solomon and the wonderful support of our Mothers' Union, we are building a more sustainable pattern of pastoral care. If it is easier, please speak to Lyn or one of the Mothers' Union team, who can pass your request on to us. We would love to visit you, pray with you and share Holy Communion, so please do get in touch.

South Asian Heritage Month: Unity in Diversity
Throughout July, churches across the Diocese of Manchester are celebrating South Asian Heritage Month, giving thanks for the rich history, cultures, faith and contributions of the eight South Asian nations. This year's theme, "Unity in Diversity," encourages us to celebrate the gifts that different cultures bring while growing together as one body in Christ.
Reader Amit Chawhan has encouraged us to mark this important month, which has particular significance for our parish family. At St James and St Edmund's, we are richly blessed by the worship, leadership, languages, hospitality and witness of our South Asian sisters and brothers. As we continue to become a House of Prayer for the Nations, may we give thanks for the diversity God has entrusted to us, listening well, learning from one another, and ensuring that everyone truly knows they belong.
Use Your Vote
On Thursday 30th July, people across Greater Manchester will have the opportunity to vote in the Greater Manchester Mayoral by-election. Whatever your political views, voting is one of the ways we can play our part in shaping the future of our city region. The right to vote was hard won through the courage of those who came before us, including the reformers of Peterloo and the Suffragettes, and it is a privilege worth using.
If you still need to register to vote, or would like information about postal or proxy voting, there is still time. You can also find details about polling arrangements on your local council's elections website.
