Funerals

If you have recently been bereaved, please accept our sincere condolences.

We would like to support you as much as possible during such sadness and loss. If you would like a visit from one of the clergy or one of our pastoral visiting team, please contact us or fill in the form at the bottom of this page.

You may be finding it difficult to think of all the things that need to be done when a close relative has died.

Regarding the funeral, there are a number of things to be considered, including church or crematorium, and scattering or interment of ashes.

The usual starting place for advice would be the undertaker. We work closely with local undertakers including Leeches Funeralcare, Paul Hilton and Peperdines. They can take on the organisation in liaison with the team at our church.

The minister conducting the funeral will visit you. They will be able to guide you through what to expect and how to make the best choices with regard to the service. They will help you understand the format of the service and ask if there are specific things you'd like him to talk about.

At our church, we're here to help. Before the funeral and afterwards, we're available to everyone in our parish, and we'll do our best to support you in any way we can.

We run a Bereavement Cafe every Thursday at St James' at 11.30am in partnership with Leeches Funeralcare, Moss Side. Folk have journeyed with us through grief and enjoyed the safe space to talk over a cup of coffee and a slice of cake.
